2010 Paris Motor Show: smart fortwo scooter?

By Automotive Staff | July 14, 2010
Looks like Daimler may be moving into the two-wheel market. Rumors are circulating that the German company may be developing a scooter side for its diminutive smart vehicle. The scooter is billed as a complement to the fortwo, a foray into emerging markets, and a response to BMW's project to revive the C1 covered motorcycle. While powertrain details have not been released, a trial run of 500 scooters in Germany will test consumer demand for two-wheeled smarts. "smart was originally established to tackle the need for improved mobility, especially in congested city environments," an unnamed Mercedes-Benz official told British magazine Autocar. "Up to now we have concentrated our efforts on four-wheel solutions." The scooter's test run will be part of a project to launch charging stations around Stuttgart, Germany, and may use its relationship with global suppliers to launch the scooter around the world.
The scooter is set to be introduced at the Paris Motor Show in September. Our take? Shopping for a scooter at the car dealership? via Autocar courtesy of Motor Trend
