2011 LA Auto Show: Mercedes, Smart, and Maybach Go to the Movies for Design Challenge

By Joel Arellano | November 03, 2011
The Design Challenge is a unique aspect of the Los Angeles Auto show, showcasing the latest trends in automotive design, technology, and even fashion. Now in its eighth year, this year's challenge is for automakers to design “Hollywood’s Hottest New Movie Car.” Daimler submitted three entries, one from each of its brands. For Mercedes-Benz, crash test dummies Hans05 and Franz02 ride to the rescue in their retro-futuristic Silver Arrow roadster against the "evil ruler" Dr. Crash-Barrier in the movie, "Silver Lightning." Annie Angle, journalist extraordinaire, literally rides up skyscrapers in the movie, "Annie get the Grannies" in her smart 454 as she investigates the disappearance of the smart granny robots. Finally, the classic fairytale "Cinderella" gets a technology revamp as Cindy, who has been toiling day and night helping her father build the Maybach Berline "carriage", gets the time and ride of her life in the autonomous full-sized vehicle in the movie, "Berline". Whom would you pick to win among the three entries? As always, leave your comments below. We at Automotive.com chose Silver Lightning because we're Michael Bay fans (Explosions! Explosions! Explosions!) but are more than a little curious to the smart granny robots' plight.
The winner of the Design Challenge will be announced on November 17th. Source: Mercedes-Benz, Smart, Maybach, Los Angeles Auto Show
