2011 Los Angeles Auto Show: 2012 Lincoln MKT Debut

By Jacob Brown | November 15, 2011
The Lincoln MKT crossover goes under the knife for its midcycle refresh. Details about the 2013 model remain scarce until its unveiling at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this week. Until such time, however, here’s what we know:
  • Its styling will receive updates that will display the design theme of future Lincoln vehicles to come.
  • It will come with a host of new technology features, including an updated, easier-to-use, and more advanced version of the MyLincoln Touch and Sync infotainment software.
  • Because it has already been announced that its platform mate, the Ford Flex, has gotten a power bump for 2013, we can assume that the MKT’s base engine will undergo a similar improvement.
  • Based on what Ford has already issued about the similar Flex, fuel economy is likely to improve, too.
Lincoln has already said that the MKT will supplant the Town Car for fleet and commercial limousine services in the luxury automaker’s lineup. Lincoln has struggled with providing customers with a value proposition in the MKT over its lesser Ford siblings. Additionally, the 2012 MKT’s styling always looked a bit like a fang-toothed hearse. We’re eager to see how Lincoln plans to rectify the outgoing crossover’s shortcomings to make it the vehicle of choice for fleet managers.
