2011 Los Angeles Auto Show: 2013 Infiniti IPL G Convertible Debut

By Trevor Dorchies | November 09, 2011
What's New Infiniti continues to flesh out its lineup with a focus on performance as the IPL G convertible is welcomed for the 2012 model year. The all-new Infiniti IPL G convertible piggybacks on the styling cues already laid out by the G sedan and convertible. Exterior features include a sculpted front and rear bumper, integrated fog lights, a rear spoiler, and chrome exhaust tips. A three-piece power retractable hard roof gives way to open sky and is removed by pushing a single button. Inside a leather wrapped steering wheel with accented stitching, aluminum trim and foot pedals, and your choice of a red or black leather seats welcome you. A 3.7 liter V-6 engine supplies motivation for the convertible and is the same one found in the regular G lineup, albeit with a few horsepower-increasing tweaks. Who It's For The 2012 Infiniti IPL G convertible is slotted above the normal G convertible, coupe, and sedan.  If the G coupe doesn't have enough sporty features, driving feel, or leather—and you don't want to head to a different brand—the IPL G convertible may be just what you've been looking for. A 3.7 liter V-6 engine combined with an exhaust configured for performance gives the IPL an overall feel other vehicles in the segment may lack.  The interior keeps pace with a posh space known to come along with Infiniti vehicles too. Primary competitors include the 2012 Audi A4, 2012 BMW 3 Series, 2012 Cadillac CTS coupe, 2012 Lexus IS-C, and the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Key Features Infiniti has stuffed the 2012 Infiniti IPL G convertible with so much luxury and performance it's impossible to overlook it. These features include:
  • A V-6 engine. A 3.7 liter V-6 engine is responsible for 348 horsepower, where others in this segment receive turbocharged four-cylinder engines.
  • Posh interior. The IPL G convertible possesses one of the most luxurious interiors in the segment. As Infiniti continues try and separate itself from parent company Nissan interior quality has been on the up-and-up.
  • It oozes performance. It's even in this G model's name-Infiniti Performance Line- as everything feature down to exterior lines are primed and ready to perform.
  • Reasonably priced. When compared against other luxury vehicles in this segment the G lineup boosts pricing that is appealing to many without sucking the life from your bank account.
What We Think Right off the bat the 2012 Infiniti IPL G convertible looks like a game-changer. The G coupe, sedan, and convertible in place already are appealing to the masses but adding in some extra performance tweaks could prove formidable for the competition. The interior is at the top of its game but we wouldn't expect anything less from an Infiniti product. However we can drool from afar as we see it for the first time but  we won't know everything until we get some wheel time.
