2011 Toyota Tacoma TRD T|X Baja Series: Japan's Answer to Ford F-150 SVT Raptor?
We apparently didn't receive the memo that the Texas State Fair is now an official automotive show. Yesterday, Ford Motor Co. unveiled its 2012 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor at the fair, sending several of us into apoplectic fits of joy. Toyota today joins this unofficial sports truck race at the fair with the debut of the (pre-production ) Toyota Tacoma TRD T|X Baja Series limited series pickup
The Baja Series builds on the Toyota TRD Off-Road package which includes standard features like active traction control (A-TRAC), electronically-controlled locking rear differential, and various hill assist controls, adding unique tires, exhaust, and exclusive Baja Series badges and graphics. Toyota retuned the suspension for a better ride, and raised the truck by two inches. Says Bob Carter, group vice president and general manager, Toyota Division: “the limited edition TRD T|X Baja Series adds another chapter to Toyota’s truck legacy by offering a new level of capability for off-road enthusiasts.”
Toyota is currently testing the Baja Series modifications on its Tacoma Access and Double Cab 4x4 models and may later add PreRunner models to the mix. Built at Toyota's San Antonio, Texas plant, all Baja Series pickups go on sale in the second quarter of 2012.
