The 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show is just over a month away now and it promises to display over 50 all-electric, plug-in electric, hybrid, and gas powered vehicles that achieve over 40 mpg on the highway. When broken down, there will be 24 electric and plug-in vehicles, at least 12 clean diesel models, and around 20 more vehicles that are gas powered vehicles with highway fuel economy at 40 mpg. These new and redesigned vehicles come at an important time as gas prices across the country continue to fluctuate. Hybrid and electric vehicles have enjoyed a 63.5 percent increase in sales over the first nine months of 2012. The overall automotive market, however, only grew 14.9 percent. The 2012 LA Auto Show will mark the official debut of three electric vehicles including the all-new Fiat 500e. Ford will also be in the spotlight with the debut of the 2013 C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid, the Fusion Energi plug-in, and the Focus electric. Honda also promises to bring the new Accord plug-in, which is expected to drum up some attraction of its own. Clean diesel vehicles are also expected to make their presents felt as Audi, Volkswagen, and Mercedes-Benz all plan on showing diesel variants. Through the first six months of 2012, diesel vehicle sales were up 27.5 percent while the automotive market only sat at around 12 percent over the course of the same time. Audi hasn't shown its cards yet, but we're hearing that the German automaker will focus on its diesel lineup this year in LA. As for Audi's more mainstream brand, Volkswagen will bring the 2013 Beetle Cabriolet which will be available with either a gasoline or diesel engine. Mercedes-Benz plans on offering eight diesel vehicles by 2014 stateside with the GLK250 BlueTEC being the latest. The compact luxury crossover will be on display at next month's show and in dealership showrooms in the spring of next year. As for the most widely accepted form of propulsion, the gas powered engine will also be in LA with around 20 vehicles that achieve 40 mpg or better on the highway. Some of these vehicles include the all-new Dodge Dart Aero and its 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine, the new Ford Fiesta which will make its debut, and the 2013 Ford Fusion Titanium. The latter will feature Ford's touted EcoBoost engine which has seen success in the F-150 pickup. The Fiat 500 Abarth cabriolet will also be making an appearance at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show and features a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine that achieves 34 mpg on the highway. What about you?
