2012 LWB Porsche Panamera Stretches Into New Car Markets

By Joel Arellano | July 27, 2011
While Porsche's debut of the 2003 Porsche Cayenne SUV and the 2010 Porsche Panamera sedan shocked traditional sports car enthusiasts, the vehicles caught the attention -- and pocketbooks -- of the well-to-do masses. Now, British enthusiast magazine Car writes that Porsche plans to introduce a stretched or long-wheel base (LWB) version of the Panamera sometime in 2012. The 2012 LWB Porsche Panamera adds more than six inches of length between the front and rear tires. The extra space provides more room for the rear-seat passengers, making the LWB Porsche Panamera an excellent choice for a chauffeured limousine. Car also reports a shorter version of the Porsche Panamera called the Pajun may be in the works, as well as a long-rumored four-seat coupe. The Porsche Cayenne and the Panamera opened new markets for the automaker, which traditionally targeted the sports car set. The LWB Porsche Panamera showcases Porsche's international reach by catering primarily to growing markets like China, which extensively use livery vehicles.
