2012 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Gets IIHS Top Safety Pick
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety today named the 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport a Top Safety Pick. The Japanese automaker's small crossover joined the Lancer as the second Mitsubishi to receive the designation after the IIHS revised its safety tests to include more stringent roof-strength and rollover testing in 2010. The Outlander Sport received top marks in front, side, rollover and rear-impact tests. The testing applies to the sport model only. The compact SUV is available in ES and SE trims, powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that is capable of producing 148 horsepower. Mitsubishi recently unveiled the 2013 Outlander in Geneva, with revised styling, interior upgrades with more soft-touch materials, and both gasoline and turbodiesel options to debut in Russia and Europe this summer. Asia and North America will receive the new Outlander this fall, and a Sport model is expected to follow, likely in 2013. Source: IIHS, Mitsubishi
