2012 Paris Motor Show Preview: 2014 Ford Fiesta
The Paris Motor Show fast approaches. Thus, it's not surprising vehicle debuts are beginning to trickle out to the hungry automotive press. Case in point: 2013 Ford Fiesta. Exterior-wise, the Euro-spec Ford Fiesta is dominated by the new hexagonal front grille that is sweeping across the Ford lineup. The 2014 Fiesta's headlamps are longer, narrower, and swept-back in comparison to the current models on sale here in the States. Ford of Europe has not yet released images of the redesign interior, only to say it's "harmonious and ergonomically optimized." Given how little the current Ford Fiesta changed when coming across the pond (that's the Atlantic to us Yanks), we don't expect major changes to the U.S.-spec Ford Fiesta when it's released sometime later this year. The revamped Ford Fiesta will showcase several new features at the Paris Motor Show later this month. The Fiesta will at least come equipped with a 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine, most likely a three-cylinder. Such an engine will help the Fiesta meet the more stringent EU emissions laws while still delivering excellent fuel economy. Other engine options, such as the inevitable diesel, will be announced either close to the show or at the motor show itself, but we're not anticipating the diesels to make it here. The 2014 Ford Fiesta will come equipped with technology normally found in higher-end models. Active City Stop will prep the Fiesta in the event of a potential crash even applying the brakes if the driver cannot do so. Ford SYNC, like the U.S. MyFord infotainment system, will allow Ford Fiesta owners to control the car's navigation, audio, and other features including any smartphone apps via voice command. Finally, Ford's MyKey system will be offered for the first time to European Ford owners. MyKey is the system which allows parents to program their teens' car keys with specific commands affecting vehicle speed, seat belt warnings, and even audio controls. The system is already available on several U.S. vehicles like the Ford Edge. Ford Europe will be releasing more specific information about the 2014 Ford Fiesta as the Paris Motor Show draws near. As stated above, Ford will announce details on the U.S. models later in 2012 and 2013. Source: Ford Europe
