2012 Toyota Prius c, 2012 Hyundai Azera, and 2013 Chevy Malibu ECO Earn Top Safety Pick
The nonprofit Insurance Institute for Highway Safety recently announced three vehicles -- the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu ECO, the 2012 Hyundai Azera, and the 2012 Toyota Prius c -- as the latest recipients for its Top Safety Pick award. The IIHS tests vehicles for safety in frontal and side crashes, rollovers, and rear crashes. Ratings range from Poor to Marginal, Acceptable, and Good. To qualify for the IIHS' Top Safety Pick, the vehicle must get a Good rating in all crash tests. Both the Chevrolet Malibu ECO and the Toyota Prius c are based off the Chevy Malibu and Toyota Prius, respectively, which are also Top Safety Pick winners. The Hyundai Azera, redesigned and revamped for model year 2012, was selected for the award after additions such as side airbags, ESC, and antilock brakes, left the old car's Acceptable rating in side impact tests in the dust, with a solid Good across the board.
