2013 Audi A8 L and A8 L Hybrid Details Emerging
Here's what we know: the 2013 Audi A8 Hybrid, and the extended, limo-like version of the luxury sedan, the A8 L Hybrid, will hit European showrooms in a couple of months. Audi hasn't confirmed that the hybrid will come to the U.S., but given Americans affinity for hybrids, and the growing concern with eco-friendly vehicles, we think it's very likely. Audi has been offering smaller, more efficient engines, and paring weight off its vehicles using lighter-weight construction materials such as aluminum in an effort to boost fuel economy. Additionally the company has been offering diesel models, a pattern that will be continued on European A8s. The Audi hybrid will combine a traditional 2.0-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor, which combined can produce up to 245-hp. Most impressive where the hybrid is concerned (especially with an A8's size), is 34 mpg combined. And despite its grand size and hybrid badge, it's no slouch either; the A8 Hybrid records a 0-60 mph time of about 7.5 seconds. Those less concerned with efficiency and more concerned with power and cachet can opt for the non-hybrid Audi A8 L, featuring a mighty 12-cylinder engine. The W12 is capable of producing a formidable 500-hp, and offers extra rear-seat leg room, plush leather heated and ventilated seats, and is the top of the A8 line. Source: Audi
