2013 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible to Rumble at 2011 LA Auto Show

Earlier this month, General Motors released details on the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, the model's most powerful coupe where a production-spec model recently completed the famed (and feared) Nurburgring course in seven minutes and an odd number of seconds. (Any figure equaling eight minutes or below achieved at the German course earns serious cred among cars fans.) GM announced today that a convertible model of the ZL1 is scheduled to be rumbling after its coupe sibling. While the coupe goes on sale in early 2012, the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 convertible will hit showrooms in late 2013 as a 2014 model. However, it will make its first public appearance next month at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show. Like the coupe, the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 convertible gets the same supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine and utilizes the same standard technologies, like GM's third-gen magnetic ride suspension and exclusive performance traction management system. According to GM, the ZL1 convertible handily beats similar but more high-end competitors like the 2012 Aston Martin DB9 Volante and Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG in sheer horsepower numbers alone. "This is a car that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face every time you drop the top—or hit the gas," says al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. Source: General Motors/Chevrolet
