2013 Lamborghini Aventador LP 720-4 50 Anniversario Frightens Small Children at Shanghai Debut

A $400,000 Lamborghini makes about as much sense as Snoop Dogg--er, Snoop Lion--teaching a college horticulture course. Which means it makes plenty enough sense. For the Italian automaker's 50th anniversary, it has introduced the Lamborghini Aventador LP 720-4 50 Anniversario, a blindingly yellow, panic-inducing supercar. The first thing you should note is that number--720--which is the overseas calculation in horsepower. In the land of the free and the home of the brave, that translates into a bump from 691 in the Aventador LP 700 to 710 horsepower, or about three or four times more than your average family sedan. The number "4" stands for all-wheel drive.
Lamborghini says the Aventador LP 720-4 is good for a 0 to 60 time in 2.9 seconds and a 217 mph top speed. Sweet mother of pearl!
Beyond the horsepower upgrade, Lamborghini has given its special edition Aventador a new front and rear bumper that we can't imagine will pass 5 mph crash standards in the U.S., offering improved aerodynamics. The 50 Anniversario has been painted Giallo Maggio, May yellow to us non-Italian-speakers, a tribute to the most popular color in the Lamborghini palette since the introduction of the Lamborghini Miura in 1968. It has a 3D pop to it, with highly reflective particles in the paint color, but the Lamborghini Aventador LP 720-4 50 Anniversario can be painted in any color through the Ad Personam program.
Upholstering its interior is a semi-aniline leather that comes in black, tan, or yellow. Lamborghini gave us their names in Italian, but we gave up on trying to rewrite them. For the rest of the 50th anniversary celebration, all Lamborghinis will have special badges, regardless if they're specifically special editions. The Aventador LP 720-4 50 Anniversario debuts this week at the Shanghai Motor Show and should be available worldwide. Still, we can't figure out how those bumpers will pass crash test standards in the U.S... Source: Lamborghini
