2013 Nissan Sentra Teased Ahead of—Oh, Nevermind, Here It Is in Beijing

By Jacob Brown | April 23, 2012
Nissan has a terrible history of long waits and vague pictures teasing its new vehicles before they actually go on sale. The same would hold true for the 2013 Nissan Sentra compact sedan if it weren't for a little car show going on in Beijing, China, right now. What Nissan North American has given us is a 20-second video showing the new Sentra's front, jeweled LED-embedded headlight, trunk lid, and rear three quarter angle—all to the tune of a beating heart. Because nothing makes our hearts beat with anticipation quite like a new compact sedan.
But in Beijing, Nissan introduced its Sylphy compact sedan last night/this morning in local time. Our sister publication, Motor Trend, pried Nissan's PR people if the car were headed stateside, to which they got a surprising confirmation that it was, in fact, our next Sentra. So that cat's out of the bag.
It'll sit on Nissan's B platform, which has underpinned the likes of the Nissan Juke, previous generation Nissan Versa, and Nissan Cube, all vehicles known for their small-on-the-outside, big-on-the-inside appeal. As the current North American Nissan Sentra has been wilting on the vine since its 2007 introduction, the new model will likely be heartily welcomed when it makes its U.S. introduction this summer for fall sale. Nissan notes it will be launching on the 30th anniversary of the Sentra name in the U.S.
