2013 Toyota Avalon Limited to Offer Wireless Charging for Cell Phones

By Trevor Dorchies | December 20, 2012
Starting with the 2013 model year, the Toyota Avalon Limited will offer in-console Qi wireless charging for all mobile devices that are Qi-enabled. As part of the optional Technology Package ($1,750), any Qi-enabled devices can be recharged simply by being placed on or near any Qi-enabled surface. Qi wireless charging, also known as inductive charging, works when two different devices "talk" to each other through electromagnetic fields. One device is designed to provide power while the other receives it, and energy is transferred back and forth between each one simultaneously. Thanks to Qi, you can now charge any Qi-enabled device without any charge cords or other accessories.
The Technology Package can be added to both the gasoline and hybrid Avalon Limited, and also includes features like Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Automatic High Beams, and a Pre-Collision System.  The wireless charging pad is incorporated into the bin in the Avalon's center console and can be activated by flipping a switching. To charge the Qi-enabled device, all you have to do is place it on the charging pad and forget about it for a little while.
“We see wireless charging as an important feature that helps enhance the high-technology theme and consumer interface offered by Avalon Limited which is already equipped with three (Thin Film Transistor) color screens and Intellitouch controls,” said Randy Stephens, chief engineer of Toyota Avalon in a statement released by the automaker.
There are currently 34 different mobile phone models that are Qi-enabled including the LG Google Nexus 4, HTC Windows Phone 8X, and the Nokia Lumia 920. The number of available Qi-enabled devices dwarfs the amount of smartphones and range anywhere from Blu-Ray players, car phone chargers, charging pads, video game controllers, alarm clocks, and even smartphone docking speakers. This technology can be installed in various pieces of furniture or table tops, too. The 2013 Toyota Avalon arrived at dealership showrooms earlier this month and features a tweaked exterior and interior design as well as some added technology. When equipped with Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive, the 2013 Avalon is capable of reaching 40 mpg. Source: Toyota

Great information there, Thank you for the share. I thought of also sharing about my new CHOE Qi Wireless Charger for Galaxy S4 I9500 (Wireless Charging Pad and Wireless Charging Receiver Included) which I bought at Amazon for $32.99
Works with any Qi-enabled device through an adapter or an embedded chip
Power Source: AC Adaptor plugs into charging pad
Freedom of Placement: No annoying magnets to align or secret spots to find in order to charge your device. The wireless charging pad is Qi standard, you can charge any Qi-enabled device today, tomorrow and beyond. Light indicator to show charging status.
It works well with Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone.
