2013 Volvo S60 Updates Show Car's Swede, Swede Emotion
Not that a car that debuted for the 2011 model year can be considered particularly old. But Volvo wants to make sure you don't start associating its bread-and-butter compact luxury sedan with that word anytime soon, so it's giving the 2013 Volvo S60 an extensive list of updates. Starting with its base 2.5-liter inline five-cylinder engine, Volvo has boosted power, resulting in a quicker 0 to 60 acceleration time of 6.4 seconds. That's down by 0.4 second versus the current model. A long list of equipment now comes standard, including rain-sensing windshield wipers, headlight washers, polished exhaust tips, and a new gearshift knob. The 2.5-liter engine will now be available with all-wheel drive. The midlevel 2013 Volvo S60 T6 AWD and top-spec S60 T6 R-Design come with mostly the same changes, but the R-Design also gets bigger front brake rotors—up from 12.4 inches in diameter to 13.2. All models are now available with longer options lists and reconfigured trim packages that include new Premier, Premier Plus, and Platinum levels. They supplant 2012's Premium and Multimedia packages. The Technology package is still available separately, as is the Heated package that gives the car seat warmers, heated nozzles for the headlight washers, and an interior air quality filter. Lastly, without sorting through the massive list of new details, the standard S60 will get two new colors: Ember Black and Electric Silver Metallic. The S60 T6 will have Ember Black available. But the Volvo S60 T6 R-Design officially wins the award for the coolest paint color name: Rebel Blue. If that name doesn't make you want to don a viking hat and start blasting Yngwie Malmsteen, there's no hope for you. The 2013 Volvo S60 will be available later this year. Source: Volvo
