2014 Acura MDX and RDX Earn Top Safety Ratings
With the criteria for safety scores in a state of change, earning top marks has become increasingly difficult. Acura didn't seem to have any issues with the new tests, as both the 2014 MDX and RDX crossovers managed to receive top ratings in both the National Highway Traffic Safety Association's (NHTSA) New Car Assessment Program and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) tests. The 2014 Acura MDX and RDX both managed to earn a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the NHTSA, earning 5-Star scores in the frontal and side impact crash tests and a 4-Star score for the rollover resistance test. Acura engineers also targeted top marks in the IIHS batch of tests. With the addition of the new small overlap front crash test, vehicles must receive a "Good" rating to qualify for a Top Safety Pick+ rating. Although testing is currently underway for both vehicles, Acura is hopeful that the 2014 MDX will receive a Top Safety Pick+ rating, and the 2014 RDX will earn a Top Safety Pick rating. New safety and driver assist technology has been added to the new models, including Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, collision mitigation braking system, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and lane keeping assist.Source: Honda
