2014 Audi A4 Set to HaveTurbodiesel Engine
In Audi's attempt to sell more diesel engines in the U.S. market, the next-generation Audi A4 will have an available TDI engine, set to arrive in 2014. The decision to offer the Audi A4 with a 2.0-liter TDI engine is thanks to the push by Volkswagen, as the automaker is trying to meet corporate average fuel economy standards without sacrificing torque. Even if diesel may cost more than regular gasoline, the difference is made up with improved fuel economy. Jeep, Chevrolet, and Mazda have also recently released diesel models to meet with the rising demand. Audi is waiting for the redesign of the Audi A4 to bring it to the U.S with the TDI engine. "This deep in its life cycle, it didn't make any sense to do all that dramatic re-engineering and re-architecting of the car to basically only have a two-year selling period," sad Scott Keogh, president of Audi of America, during Audi AG's annual press conference in Germany. The Audi A4 and S4 variant sales accounted for one-fourth of all Audis sold in the U.S. Currently offered with the TDI engine are the Audi Q7 crossover and Audi A3 hatchback, which will be replaced for the 2014 model year with the A3 sedan. This year, Audi announced that the TDI engine will soon be available on the Q5 crossover, A6, A7, and A8 sedans. However, the A8 diesel will be the first released, going on sale this spring, with the others following this fall. Source: Automotive News
