Official: 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible Shows Up Ahead of Geneva Debut [UPDATED]

By Jacob Brown | March 04, 2013
It's apparent that General Motors has international aspirations with its 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible, introducing it in Geneva instead of the U.S. But if you want to challenge the best sports cars in the world, you sometimes have to bring the fight onto the other guy's turf. After waiting more than a month since first seeing the 2014 Corvette Stingray coupe in Detroit and seeing leaked pictures that were used to help craft a model car, we finally get to see the first official images of the convertible version of the seventh-generation sports car, both with the top up and down. And it looks exactly how you'd think it would, with a small canvas convertible top over the passengers with much the same profile as the outgoing Corvette. Besides a new gray color and the tan top, the only noticeable difference we can spot between the coupe and convertible is five-spoke wheels. Paragraphimage Chevrolet has not given us any new information about the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray or the convertible since its Detroit debut. We don't expect much to change under the skin, however. The base engine should still be a 6.2-liter LT1 V-8 with 450 horsepower paired to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission, channeling power to the rear wheels. The weight of the new Corvette is still unknown, but we anticipate it to be lighter than the outgoing model. At the time of this writing, it's nearly freezing in Geneva, which makes showing off a new convertible a little awkward. Chevrolet is in good company, as Toyota will be introducing a convertible concept version of its GT86--what we know as the Scion FR-S. Seeing as how this is only the seventh all-new Corvette in the last 60 years, we think no one will mind too much when it's on display in Geneva. UPDATE: Chevrolet has released three more pictures of the Corvette convertible, showing the rear of the car, including its new creased trunk lid and the new automatic transmission shifter inside a tan cockpit. The three new pictures are in the gallery below. Source: Chevrolet
