2014 Chevrolet Cruze Diesel Gets 46 mpg, Highest Highway Fuel Economy in Segment

Set to go on sale this summer, the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel gets an EPA-estimated 46 mpg on the highway, the highest of any non-hybrid vehicle in America. The Cruze Diesel also has a highway range of 700 miles on one take of diesel fuel, equating to 10 hours of highway driving. The Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel will likely be based on the range-topping LTZ model, judging from its $24,885 price tag. While its closest competitor is the less expensive $23,055 Volkswagen Jetta TDI, that car is based on the mid-level SE with a convenience package. The extra price on the Cruze gets you a more powerful engine, better fuel economy, a better 0-60 time (if having the quickest fuel sipper in town is a priority), and standard features like larger 17-inch alloy wheels, leather seating, a longer five-year 100,000 mile powertrain limited warranty, and a two-year maintenance plan.
