2014 Chevrolet Spark to Have New Continuously Variable Transmission; '14 Sonic to Have Lane Departure Warning
Newsflash: For the first time ever, Chevrolet has a fleet of small cars that are all pretty good. Capitalizing on the fact that everyone likes them for once--us included--Chevy felt apt to give the 2014 Chevrolet Spark and larger 2014 Chevrolet Sonic a long list of new and improved features. For starters, the 2014 Chevrolet Spark is getting a new continuously variable automatic transmission that replaces the former four-speed automatic that came in the 2013 car. With it, Chevrolet says it has been able to expand the gear ratios, allowing the car to achieve higher fuel economy numbers, although it has not listed what those are yet. The 2013 Spark is able to achieve 28 mpg city/37 mpg highway with the four-speed automatic. Other new features include standard automatic headlight control, power-adjusting mirrors in 2LT models, new Lime and Grape Ice paint colors, and a few new dealer-installed options. For the first full model year, the 2014 Chevrolet Spark will also have an upgraded MyLink infotainment system on higher-level models that will allow for Siri Eyes Free voice recognition and BringGo navigation to be downloaded and integrated into the head unit. Its bigger brother, the 2014 Chevrolet Sonic isn't resting on its laurels, either. Standard on LTZ and RS models and available on LT models for the first time will be a rearview camera. Additional safety systems will include available Forward Collision Alert and lane departure warning. Otherwise, the 2014 Chevrolet Sonic gets an available LT Promotional package that includes a MyLink radio unit, power sunroof, and fog lights. New colors include Ashen Gray Metallic, Red Hot, and Cool Blue. The MyLink features available in the Spark are also available in the Sonic. Both the Chevrolet Spark and Sonic have been integral in the brand capturing new buyers who want a cheap car but don't want the cheap-car feeling. We imagine with the heavily refreshed 2014 Ford Fiesta well on its way and the redesigned Honda Fit just over the horizon, Chevrolet felt the need to keep more of a good thing going. These upgrades should keep the models fresh until it comes time to replace them sometime in the next few years. Source: Chevrolet
