2014 Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker, '14 Mopar Challenger Do Burnouts in Your Fantasies in SEMA Debuts
We thought about how to describe the 2014 Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker edition in one word. And then we thought about it again. And again. We could really only come up with one proper adjective: Bitchin'. Totally, absolutely bitchin'. Inspired by the 1970 Dodge Challenger that more than filled our rock 'n roll fantasies and still haven't left the drag strips buried in the backs of our minds, the 2014 Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker brings back the "shaker" hood option that was beloved for so many years by enthusiasts because of its sheer audaciousness in aesthetics and athletics. It's part of the hood, as you can see, but it's also part of the engine, as it serves as a direct inlet to the air intake. If the engine rumbles, it isn't isolated underneath an engine cover, insulation, and a steel hood; you see the roaring V-8 demand respect via the shaker snorkel mounted atop the engine. Like we said, pretty bitchin'. The Challenger R/T Shaker comes powered by a Hemi 5.7-liter V-8 with upwards of 400 pound-feet of torque--more than the current versions on streets--although Chrysler hasn't revealed final specs. It also comes with a driver-selectable sport mode, performance-tuned suspension, the Super Track Pak handling package, and Goodyear Eagle F1 high-performance tires. Of course, interior upgrades are also part of the deal. The 2014 Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker goes on sale in the first quarter of 2014, ?which is right in time for many nostalgists suffering from midlife crises and not soon enough for others. It'll cost $36,995 for starters, not including a $995 destination and handling fee, representing a $2,500 increase from a Dodge Challenger R/T Classic. All we ask for is that we can get ours with a Hurst pistol-grip shifter and a CD of Jimi Hendrix's "Star Spangled Banner" for our eventual drive of the car. Not to be outdone, however, Chrysler is also unveiling its Mopar '14 Dodge Challenger this week at the Specialty Equipment Market Association's annual gathering. Limited to just 100 units, Dodge is Mopar-izing its full-size muscle car for the second time, the car comes in white, has a "Shaker-style" stripe running doenw the car, and comes with more badging than a T.G.I. Friday's employee uniform. All cars are bedecked with the latest Mopar accessories and upgraded interiors, and they will come powered by the venerable 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 engine that scoots other Challengers along at quite a brisk pace. Chrysler says the Mopar '14 Dodge Challenger will go on sale during the second quarter of 2014, with pricing to be revealed sometime around the car's March ordering date. Source: Chrysler
