2014 Ford Fiesta Three-Cylinder EcoBoost Fuel Economy Numbers Posted

By | October 29, 2013
Before the official numbers came out, Ford boasted that the new 2014 Ford Fiesta would be a class leader in fuel economy with the addition of the 1.0-liter, three-cylinder EcoBoost engine. We expected high numbers, possibly close to 40/50 mpg city/highway, but the Fiesta fell short of our estimates. Although the EPA estimates are high for a vehicle in its class, there is still one vehicle that has better fuel economy than the Ford Fiesta. Back in June when the EPA results came in on the 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine in the 2014 Fiesta, Ford claimed that it was the only subcompact car to surpass 40 mpg highway. Ford Fiesta marketing manager, Liz Elser, went on to say that "The 2014 model is shaping up to be a game changer for Fiesta. With the addition of Fiesta ST and the award-winning 1.0-liter EcoBoost, we have fantastic performance and fuel efficiency. But with today's news, buyers will have a fuel-efficient Fiesta no matter which they choose." Before Ford can boast best-in-class statuses on their vehicles, they should take a closer look at the competition and see their fuel ratings. The 2014 Ford Fiesta received an EPA estimate of 32/45/37 mpg city/highway/combined. For the subcompact class, these are some of the highest reported numbers out there, but in a surprising turn of events, the latest "dud" vehicle has surpassed the Fiesta. The 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage has claimed the top spot, receiving 37/44/40 mpg city/highway/combined. Although Ford may have claimed the highest highway mpg, Mitsubishi's latest model is overall more efficient. And that's just looking at the manual transmission models. Source: Ford, Fueleconomy.gov
