2014 Ford Fiesta to Get MyFord Touch Infotainment Option

By Jacob Brown | November 26, 2012
Like it or hate it, MyFord Touch has changed the way the auto industry does infotainment systems. With a touchscreen interface, it's integrated nearly every car control outside of driving the car itself into a single unit. And it's done so to mixed results: high praise from tech reviewers and the opposite from the more conservative car-reviewing community. MyFord Touch has spread to nearly every vehicle Ford makes, and come the 2014 model year, it's headed to the brand's smallest offering, the Ford Fiesta. Since 2008, Ford has had its Sync voice-command operations in its cars and trucks, integrating it in nearly all of them. The Fiesta had it, too, albeit with a tiny, pixelated red screen displaying radio information at the top of the dashboard. Now, it's getting the full makeover with flush, pressure-sensitive buttons and a 6.5-inch color touchscreen. Ford says that MyFord Touch in the 2014 Fiesta will boast simplified Bluetooth phone pairing procedures. Its Sync component is said to respond better to natural voice commands instead of the robot-like options that were used in the first generations of MyFord Touch and easier to use navigation controls. "Take rates for MyFord Touch on new vehicle orders, such as the 2013 Escape and Fusion, continue to outpace our internal projections. We expect the same trend for Fiesta," says Michelle Moody, Ford's cross-vehicle marketing manager, in a statement. The 2014 Ford Fiesta will debut this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show, not only gaining MyFord Touch and the improved Sync, but also getting the option of a 123-horsepower, 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that will both out-power the car's current 1.6-liter four-cylinder, but is also expected to deliver better fuel economy numbers, too. Will it be any good? Will MyFord Touch designed around the cheaper 2014 Ford Fiesta work as seamlessly as it does in, say, the 2013 Ford Fusion? We'll let you know after we drive it later this week.
