2014 GMC Sierra Heavy on Interior Technology, Optional 6.2-liter V-8 Engine Rated at 420 Horsepower
We've already sampled the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, but its upmarket twin, the 2014 GMC Sierra made its official debut today. Right off the bat, we now know (for a fact) that the 6.2-liter V-8 engine, which is also offered in the Silverado, is rated at 420 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. Chevy will be the first to tell you that this new 6.2-liter V-8 engine produces more power than the 2013 Ram 1500 (395 hp with the 5.7-liter V-8) and 2013 Ford F-150 (411 hp with the 6.2-liter V-8). If you want power, the 6.2-liter V-8 engine will be available on the Sierra SLT trim once it hits showrooms around the country this coming fall. General Motors expects this engine to be capable of hauling up to 12,000 pounds, but final numbers from the Society of Automotive Engineers are expected later this year. This is an important number for GM in the never-ending battle for light-duty pickup truck towing supremacy. Like the Silverado, the all-new Sierra boasts more power and better fuel efficiency than the one it's replacing with help from features like direct injection, active fuel management and variable valve timing.Underneath the sheet metal, it's hard to tell the difference between the Silverado and Sierra. Sheet metal-deep changes are much more evident though, as the Sierra Denali sports the signature chrome grille, 20-inch chrome wheels, polished stainless steel exhaust tips, and body-color front and rear bumpers. Inside, a decorative trim exclusive to the Sierra can be found along with a bevy of technology and other features. An eight-inch Customizable Driver Display is exclusive to the Sierra Denali and displays settings as well as audio and navigation information in the instrument panel. This CDD reacts to touch and features Intellilink, which is located on top of the center console. You can connect up to five different smart phones through five standard USB ports, too.Other standard features on the 2014 GMC Sierra include projector-style headlamps, LED daytime running lights, a Bose audio system, heated and cooled leather front bucket seats, and a heated steering wheel. Front and rear park assist and a power sliding rear window with a defogger are also standard. The 6.2-liter V-8 engine is a standalone option along with a sunroof and Rear Seat Entertaiment. The 5.3-liter V-8 engine, which is rated at 355 hp, is the standard mill for the 2014 GMC Sierra. Optional packages on the 2014 GMC Sierra Denali include a Z71 Off-Road trim (only available with four-wheel drive configuration) and features monotube Rancho shocks, hill descent control, and transfer case shield. A Driver Alert Package is also available and that includes Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert and Safety Alert Seat Technology. Source: GMC
