Trick or Treat: 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid Goes On Sale Today

By | October 31, 2013
The 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid arrives in showrooms today amid hype that it offers the best city fuel economy of any four-door sedan in America, according to Honda. Priced at $29,155, not including $790 for destination and handling, the Accord Hybrid is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas engine paired with Honda's trick two-motor electric system. This combination delivers an EPA-estimated 50 mpg in the city and 45 mpg on the highway, providing for a combined rating of 47 mpg. The Accord Hybrid's high city fuel economy rating allows it to compete directly with the Toyota Prius, the fuel economy leader among mainstream hybrids. Surprisingly, the Accord Hybrid also achieves better fuel economy than the Accord Plug-In, which is rated at a combined 46 mpg and comes at a hefty price of $40,000. The 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid is available in three trim levels. Standard features on the 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid include LED daytime running lights, 10-way power driver seat, heated side mirrors, lane watching system, and a rearview camera. Stepping up to the EX-L trim costs an extra $2,750 and provides leather seats, heated front seats, four-way passenger front seat, and a power moonroof. The top-of-the-line Touring trim, priced at $34,905, tacks on navigation, LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, and a Homelink wireless control system to remotely open the garage door or a house gate. It will be interesting to see how the Accord Hybrid competes with the Ford Fusion Hybrid, which has a similar powertrain and the same combined fuel economy rating but is a few thousand dollars less expensive. This might be a great car if you can get it. Honda is only releasing 1500 cars nationwide (per a representative at Honda). A major dealer in the country  has confirmed they are not getting a car until December and that it would be a single car- trim level, color etc unknown.
