2014 Mitsubishi Outlander to be Pikes Peak Official Safety Vehicle
The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is the second oldest race in America--second only to the Indianapolis 500--and the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander will serve as its official safety vehicle at this year's race. The 12.2 mile race features 156 corners and begins at an altitude of almost 10,000 ft. From there drivers scale the scenic Rocky Mountains to the finish line, which at 14,110 ft. is almost three miles high. We're betting that Mitsubishi will opt for its more powerful, 224-hp V-6 engine over its entry-level four-cylinder, though the Outlander crossover and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution support vehicle that will assist may also be modified as these specific vehicles in use have been built for Pikes Peak. Associate editor Trevor Dorchies recently drove the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander, and found its three-row seating and starting price of just under $24,000 an agreeable pairing.
