The Ford Edge alongside with the Ford Flex have become one of the most popular cars on the market. I just wish that the 3.7L performance motor from the 2013 Ford Edge Sport was offered in the other trim models. In my opinion, out of the 2-3 motor platforms offered on the Ford Edge, the 3.7L engine is the best performing one for such a big Crossover SUV. Don't get me wrong, the 3.5L isn't bad but not as great as the 3.7L. I'm very curious to see how this new plant will help the Ford Edge market and what the redesign for 2015??? will be.
$700 Million for Ford Flex, Ford Edge, Lincoln MKX and Lincoln MKT Oakville Plant
Ford is investing C$700 million in its Oakville, Canada plant, to boost surging crossover sales of the Ford Edge. The Oakville plant also builds the Ford Flex, and premium Lincoln crossovers, the MKX and MKT. The move is expected to solidify 2,800 jobs. "This investment is helping us find much needed capacity for global products and securing jobs, and it is positioning Oakville as one of the most competitive and important facilities in the Ford system," said Joe Hinrichs, president of the Americas, speaking at a recent ceremony at the plant. "Global fuel-efficient products, built in a state-of-the-art facility, by a great workforce are a win for everyone today." The investment comes as the Ford Edge is expected to outpace its 2007 record of 130,000 models sold. The plant will increase its investment in new equipment that will allow Ford's production capability to be more flexible. Hinrichs added that if consumers were to shift their buying habits, Ford could quickly and efficiently shift its production to reflect that. "Flexible manufacturing enables us to get vehicles to consumers faster than ever before. This is a great value proposition for everyone." Ford is expected to redesign the Edge crossover for the 2015 model year, and the Oakville plant will be involved in its production. Source: Ford
