Alfa Romeo to Follow 4C Coupe with Convertible
Alfa Romeo is doubling down: following the hype of the 4C Concept, Alfa is planning a 2014 production model launch, but that may not be all. According to a report in Autocar, an Alfa Romeo 4C convertible may not be far behind. The convertible will employ a new 1.75-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which given the 4C's relative light weight—targeted under 2000 pounds for the coupe— is expected to push the sports car from 0-60 mph in under five seconds. Alfa Romeo is showcasing the 4C as the face of the reinvigorated brand. Mauro Pierallini, Fiat's engineering chief said the target price was 45,000 Euros, which would price the 4C over $60,000 here in the U.S. It's likely Alfa Romeo would have a lower starting price in the ultra competitive U.S. market, as similarly equipped cars often start with more accessible pricing than in European showrooms. Pierallini says 18,000 4C models will be produced over the lifetime of the car, though a factory has yet to be selected. Alfa Romeo will have a tall order in producing a road-ready 4C with the same sensuous styling, sleek curves, and eye-catching interior design. Deliveries of the Alfa Romeo 4C convertible are expected about a year after the coupe. Source: Autocar
