All-new Jaguar XJ to debut in July in UK

By Automotive Staff | March 19, 2009
Jaguar, following the XK and XF, has released some details and even an image of the upcoming Jaguar XJ, flagship to the luxury brand's fleet. Per Autocar: The radical new Jaguar XJ will be revealed in London this July ahead of its launch later this year, and Jaguar wants to reclaim some of its traditional executive customers with the car. Once the natural and patriotic choice for board directors everywhere in corporate Britain, the XJ has been replaced as the vehicle of choice by the Mercedes S-class. But with fresh styling, lightweight alloy construction, and new engines, the new XJ is designed to open up a new customer base. Project X351, as the car is called, started as a reskin of the current XJ. But as the programme has developed, the engineering changes have become more extensive. In fact, X351 will be the first Jaguar flagship to be launched with a retooled body and new engines.

I love big cats as well. We shouldn't forget that Cadillac went through the same process with the CTS, reinventing a brand that although fabled, was no longer cutting edge. The rest of the cars in the line-up followed suit and with the "Art and Science" desing concept and it revived the brand to young eyes. I still love the current XJ, but it's time for move forward.

i heart jags. however, i'm of two minds at the brand's current direction. feels like i'm looking at two different vehicles from the same company
