Audi Celebrates 2012 Model Finale with R8 Exclusive Selection Editions
For 2013, Audi is extensively updating its R8 supercar. But that doesn't mean it's not still having some fun with the outgoing model. In its last hurrah, the 2012 Audi R8 is getting two Exclusive Selection special editions, one for the V-8-powered model and the other for cars equipped with the V-10. They'll be launched exclusively for the U.S. market, and differ significantly from one another. The V-8-powered model will come with Audi's familiar 4.2-liter engine with 430 horsepower on-tap. It will come with either a six-speed manual or six-speed sequential automated R tronic transmission. The Audi R8 Exclusive Special edition with V-8 is painted exclusively in a matte color called Daytona Gray, equipped with a carbon fiber splitter and rear diffuser to add downforce, 19-inch wheels, a black grille surround and exhaust tips, red brake calipers, and tail lights from the Audi R8 GT. Inside, it will sport red leather to contrast against the predominantly black interior, a leather surround for the navigation system, and a thicker, leather-wrapped steering wheel. The V-8-powered R8 Exclusive Selection will cost from $141,950, including $1,250 for destination and handling and $3,000 for a gas guzzler charge. The R tronic comes in at $149,750, including $1,250 for destination and $1,700 for its gas-guzzler penalty. The V-10 model uses a 525-horsepower engine and comes exclusively in Shimmering Ibis white paint with Brilliant Black accents. Like the V-8 model, it borrows smoked tail lights from the R8 GT. But its 19-inch wheels are patterned after Audi's e-tron design, and alabaster and Ibis white accent the interior instead of red. The Audi R8 Exclusive Selection Edition with V-10 comes in a bit loftier at $165,750, including destination and $3,000 for gas-guzzler tax. The R tronic-equipped model carries a $2,100 gas guzzler fee, topping the range at $175,700. V-8 models represent a $23,500 premium versus non-Exclusive Selection editions, and V-10 cars carry a $22,500 extra cost. However, Audi will be making just 30 V-8-powered 2012 Audi R8 Exclusive Selection coupes and 20 V-10-powered R8 Exclusive Selection cars. If you're in the market for one of these high-dollar sports cars, look for the 2012 Audi R8 Exclusive Selection to start showing up a dealers towards the end of this month. Source: Audi
