Audi Prices Ultra Limited 2012 R8 GT Spyder, Not for the Meek

Audi's most exclusive car, the 2012 R8 GT Spyder, is all set to come to the U.S., and it comes complete with supercar pricing. Audi says only 333 of these will be produced, and we earlier speculated that under 100 would make the journey across the Atlantic. We now know 50 of the automaker's finest will arrive, making it more limited than we previously thought. And they'll cost you: about $213,000 after delivery and a gas-guzzler tax. What makes the R8 GT Spyder special, besides being limited, is it's the lightest, fastest one available. The 5.2-liter V-10 has been "boosted to an output of 560 horsepower." With a zero to 60 time of 3.8 seconds, and a top speed of 197 mph, this one's about bragging rights. The newest Audi is 187.39 pounds lighter. Aluminum and extra carbon-fiber treatments pare off some of the weight, and the engine is constructed of ultra-light magnesium. It's a little lower too, ten millimeters to be exact versus the regular R8 V-10 Spyder. The 2012 R8 GT Spyder gets a few special features to help distinguish it, including: 19-inch GT wheels with summer performance tires; a specific sport suspension; carbon fiber matte exterior mirrors and interior inlays on the door handles; aluminum door sill inserts; and a numbered aluminum gear knob. Is all this worth the nearly $40k bump in price? We figure this one's about casually saying "oh you just have the regular R8?" Source: Audi
