Audi Thumbs Nose at BMW X6, Plans Q6
Whatever you can do I can do after... once I see positive sales data. That's the apparent company strategy out of Audi's Ingolstadt headquarters. Not to be outdone in the continuous rivalry between itself and BMW, Audi will make an SUV that will slot between its Q7 and Q5 models, to directly compete with the BMW X6. Walter de' Silva, the design chief at Volkswagen, Audi's parent company, confirmed the Q6 to Automotive News, saying "we will definitely launch a sportier crossover in between the Q7 and Q5." As the BMW X6 is based on the same underpinnings of the X5, it's likely the new Q6 will similarly share much with the Q7. But the Q6 is not the only new model as Audi is mulling over building a smaller crossover, a Q4 to compete with BMW's X4 which will be in showroom in 2014. As of now this is still just a consideration, but we wouldn't be surprised if Audi looked to fill the gap between the Q5 and Q3. BMW is currently the top-selling premium brand, and Audi has made it clear it hopes to surpass its foremost rival by 2015. Source: Automotive News (subscription required)
