Behind the Wheel: 2013 Ram 1500 SLT Quad Cab 4x2

It all started when Fiat first announced that it would be purchasing Chrysler when the American automaker filed for bankruptcy in 2009.  After rearranging some brands, Chrysler Group now features five brands in the form of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Fiat, and Ram trucks. Before, Ram was a part of Dodge's stable and was known as the Dodge Ram, but now, Chrysler Group's truck brand stands on its own, and it's already establishing a name for itself. Ram has benefitted from features like the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine, a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission, and Chrysler Group's Uconnect infotainment system. The nicely appointed interior and cushy ride still remains with the new Ram trucks, though. Now, we now what you may be thinking. "A V-6 engine in a full-size pickup and an eight-speed automatic transmission?!" You read that right, and those features actually help boost the Ram's fuel economy higher while still delivering on the power aspect. The eight-speed automatic transmission delegates 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque while averaging 17 mpg in the city, 25 mpg on the highway, and 20 mpg combined. So, is the 2013 Ram 1500 worth all the hype? We won't say in full here, but we did observe an average of 23 mpg during its time with us. Check out our 2013 Ram 1500 SLT Quad Cab 4x2 Quick Drive to find out if fuel economy is enough to earn all of the notoriety.
