Behind the Wheel: Volkswagen Golf GTD
The Volkswagen GTD arrives in Europe to broaden one of the greatest selling models of all time. The big news for Volkswagen enthusiasts in America is it appears this model might be coming to the U.S., too. Volkswagen recently sent us to Germany to test the GTD, and to give us an idea of what we could look forward to stateside. Aesthetically similar to the performance oriented GTI, the Volkswagen GTD is a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbo-diesel Golf that builds on the current TDI model. With more power than the Golf TDI, added style, and greater efficiency than the GTI, the VW GTD offers a sporty diesel alternative to enhance the lineup. And as the GTD is based on the seventh-generation Golf, it benefits from the latest architecture, and a strict diet that has effectively shed excess weight, further improving fuel economy. On a drive from Volkswagen's Wolfsburg, Germany headquarters, we pushed the GTD to the limit on the famed autobahn, before winding our way up through the Harz mountains, and eventually in to a bustling and vibrant Berlin. What did we think of the Volkswagen GTD? Is it worth the wait? You can read our Volkswagen GTD First Drive, to learn more.
