BMW i8 Concept Spyder Shown in Video Ahead of Beijing Debut
The BMW i8 Concept Spyder is nearing its official debut at the Beijing Motor Show later this month. But that hasn't stopped BMW from showing off the plug-in sports car as much as it possibly can before the show. The German automaker recently released 47 seconds of eye candy. In it, you don't hear a voiceover. Heck, you don't hear much of anything outside of the background music—not even an engine noise! That's because the BMW i8 Concept Spyder gets its power from an electric motor powering the front wheels and a small three-cylinder engine sending power to the back, combining for 354 horsepower. Not only will they move the 3,600-pound car to 62 mph in five seconds flat, but BMW says they'll be able to achieve as much as 78 mpg. That's a win-win if you ask us. The BMW i8 is expected to see the light of day—and showrooms—around 2014 or 2015. As you can see from the video, the Concept Spyder's doors and interior look far more production ready, making us wonder what's taking BMW so long. Just hurry up with giving us our cake and letting us eat it, too, darn it!
