BMW M5 Bullet Commercial Looks Glossy, Drives Through Stuff

By Blake Z. Rong | June 25, 2012
If you've ever wondered what a BMW-shaped bullet looks like, put down that classified ad for the E24 6 Series of the 1980s and watch this ad of the BMW M5 shooting out of a tunnel and into a porcelain apple. It's a gun, get it? BMW calls it "high performance art." And no M5 front bumpers, giant glass apple sculptures, or painstakingly filled water balloons were harmed in the making of this BMW commercial from Canada, though the real effect would have been a lot cooler, and a lot messier—what are those run-flat tires rated to again? The ad also curiously shows the M5 as coming with a six-speed manual—perhaps reluctantly. Was anybody else hoping that the M5 would fly off some sweet jumps at the end of its top speed run, or is that just me?
Of course, when given M5s, desert settings, and driving fast in a straight line, this ad may be clever but it doesn't hold a candle to what is still the greatest BMW commercial. And don't try this at home, kids.
