Chevrolet Drops Details on 2013 Sonic RS Before 2012 Detroit Auto Show
General Motors decided to give car shoppers and enthusiasts an early holiday treat with details on the 2013 Chevy Sonic RS hatchback which is to debut next month at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. From a driving perspective, the biggest change on the 2013 Chevrolet Sonic RS is the availability of a six speed manual transmission paired to the more powerful 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. A six-speed automatic is also available as well. Current Sonic models are available in five-speed manual and the six speed auto. According to GM, the Chevy Sonic RS' six manual transmission has been recalibrated for a sportier drive. Oh, and the Sonic RS comes with disc brakes for all four wheels while standard non-RS models use a combo of front disc and less expensive rear drum brakes. States Chris Perry, vice president of Global Chevrolet Marketing, “the new Chevrolet Sonic RS pushes Chevrolet’s performance heritage in a new direction, for a new generation of drivers." Exterior changes to the 2012 Chevy Sonic RS include new front grille, headlamps, rear spoiler, unique 17-inch wheels, and badges, while the interior makeover gets new seats, shift knob, aluminum pedals and even more RS badges. You will know you're in Chevrolet Sonic RS and so will the rest of the world. Finally, the 2012 Sonic RS comes with a new color—Black Granite Metallic—as well as the standard Sonic pallet. Chevrolet has not released pricing on the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic RS. Automotive.com's take: Car enthusiasts, is this your future hot hatch? Source: General Motors / Chevrolet
