Chevrolet Trax To Be Rebadged Buick Encore For Everyone But Us
Buick's petite Encore mini-ute is getting a bow-tied stablemate. The unfortunately-named Chevrolet Trax (a name that seems to draw in every "rad dude" reference from the mid-90s) is Chevrolet's European answer to the Buick Encore compact crossover, spoken in a French accent—when it makes its debut at the Paris Auto Show later this September. “The Trax provides Chevrolet an entry into a growing small SUV segment and delivers the flexibility, great fuel economy and car-like handling that urban explorers around the world require,” said Mary Barra, GM's vice president of product development.Details are not specific but already known, based on the Encore's reveal back in January. The Trax will presumably share its turbocharged Ecotec 1.4-liter engine, six-speed automatic transmission and available all-wheel drive. It wears chunkier, more aggressive sheetmetal with sharper fender flares than the waterfall-like Encore. And because Americans demand its vehicles to be bigger, the Trax will not make it to these shores, though it will be available in Mexico and Canada. Chevy's product planners believe that the Equinox is as small enough for us. The 140 other markets around the world don't think so, however. Expect more details as we round the Paris Auto Show in September. Source: Chevrolet
