Chevy Avalanche's Long Fall Ends with 2013 Black Diamond Edition
What goes up, well, you know the saying. General Motors announced today it's putting a halt to the Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck. Originally introduced in 2001 as a 2002 model, the Chevy Avalanche was aimed at buyers who wanted all the capacity of a standard pickup but actually used one more as daily people hauler. Much of this versatility was accomplished through the use of a "midgate" between the Avalanche's cabin and truck bed. By opening the midgate and then flattening the second row of seats, Chevy Avalanche owners could lengthen the bed area for long pieces of cargo like wood shelves, surfboards, or the fabled 4 x 8 sheet of plywood. By closing the midgate, the Chevrolet Avalanche could drive around like a five passenger vehicle. GM is rolling out a special edition of the Chevrolet Avalanche to commemorate its decade-long service. The 2013 Chevrolet Avalanche Black Diamond edition will feature unique badging (see above), and body-colored bed surrounds. The base 2013 Chevy Avalanche LS Black Diamond edition will come standard with a host of equipment including a rear camera, while the mid-level Chevrolet Avalanche Black Diamond LT has its own unique standard equipment. GM is also dropping the Chevy Avalanche Black Diamond Edition pricing by $2,500. This figure does not include the standard $995 delivery and handling fee. Says Mark Clawson, Chevrolet Avalanche marketing manager, "The (Chevy) Black Diamond Avalanche is our way of saying 'Thank you' and making it just a little more attractive to own one more Avalanche."The Chevrolet Avalanche won Motor Trend's Truck of the Year for 2002.
