GM to Rebadge Nissan NV200 Compact Van; Sell as Chevrolet City Express
Announced earlier today, Nissan and General Motors have signed an agreement for Nissan to produce a small cargo vehicle for GM to sell in the U.S. and Canada. The vehicle will be distributed under the Chevrolet brand as the Chevrolet City Express, and it is expected to go on sale in the fall of 2014. Currently, Nissan sells its NV200 in numerous global markets, including the U.S. and Canada. The spacious and compact commercial van is a previous winner of the International Van of the Year Award, with cost of ownership being one of the lowest in the class. The NV has low running costs, efficient engines and drivetrains, and a safety structure designed to minimize crash damage. "Our fleet customers have asked us for an entry in the commercial small van segment, so this addition to the Chevrolet portfolio will strengthen our position with fleets and our commercial customers," said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president of GM Fleet and Commercial Sales in a recent interview. Pricing for the Chevrolet City Express has yet to be announced.Source: General Motors
