Chrysler Group Releases Updated Product Plan, Alfa Romeo 4C Makes the Cut

It's been a busy day for the folks over at Chrysler Group. Earlier today, it was announced that the Auburn Hills-based automaker reeled in $1.7 billion in net income in 2012, up eight-fold from $183 million in 2011. Now, Chrysler Group and parent company Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has released an updated product plan and it still calls for the addition of one Alfa Romeo product, presumably the 4C sports coupe, due out sometime this year. The new plan updates the one released back in 2009 and looks as far ahead as 2016. Here's what each of Chrysler Group's brands has on the docket for the next five years. Chrysler: Marchionne plans to add three more Chrysler vehicles to the automaker's flagship brand in 2015. The original plan called for three Chrysler vehicles that would be built by Fiat in 2012 and 2013 but that has now been scrapped. While Marchionne didn't specify, he made it known that a Chrysler vehicle is getting refreshed for the 2014 model year (our money is on the Chrysler 200 sedan). Dodge: Like Chrysler, Dodge has now decided to step away from two Fiat-produced vehicles.  It will, however, refresh three current models, something that wasn't in the cards until now. Marchionne didn't say which three vehicles are getting reworked, but logic points to the Avenger (the Chrysler 200's platform mate), and possibly the Journey (which hasn't seen an update since it was introduced in 2008 for the 2009 model year) and Durango (the Jeep Grand Cherokee's platform mate, which was recently updated). Jeep: Chrysler's off-road brand has decided that it will delay the release of a small Jeep built on Fiat underpinnings by one year. It will now be ready for 2014 pending this current product plan goes unchanged. Marchionne also plans on introducing to new Jeep products in 2015, one of which is believed to be the seven-passenger Grand Wagoneer, which has been put on hold for two years. Jeep will also roll out two refreshed models in 2016 as well. Ram: Plans for a van built by Fiat, presumably a Fiat Doblo variant, have been pushed back two years and will now be ready in 2014. Chrysler's truck branch also plans to unveil two new Ram products in 2016. SRT: The Street and Racing Technology arm of Chrysler won't see another addition to its stable until 2016. Rumors have been swirling around that this new vehicle will be a two-seat sports car to be known as the Barracuda. Those same rumors are indecisive about the Challenger living on past 2016. Marchionne did say that three SRT-branded vehicles will get a refresh (the Jeep Grand Cherokee among them) and the Viper won't see a refresh until 2015. Source: Chrysler
