Chrysler Officially Registers "EcoDiesel 3.0L"

By Trevor Dorchies | July 09, 2012
It's been rumored that Chrysler has been working on bringing a diesel engine for use as an option in the Ram 1500 and 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. We've already caught a diesel-powered 1500 testing in the mountains, and this latest move only raises suspicion further. Filed back on June 25 of this year, Chrysler applied, and received permission from the United States Patent and Trademark Office to use "EcoDiesel 3.0L." It's believed this new name will be used for the 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engine that's been rumored to be coming to the United States. Chrysler's application for the trademark shows that the Auburn Hills-based automaker will not have exclusive rights to certain words like "Eco," "Diesel," and "3.0L" when used separately. It's also unknown what color the badge will be but Chrysler has added a leaf next to the "EcoDiesel" lettering. This leads us to believe that, while there's still no official word on color, the "Eco" or "Diesel" will be green. While no other facts are known about this new trademark filed by Chrysler yet, we do expect the VM Motori 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine to wear this new badge. Early reports rate this diesel engine at around 240 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, but these figures won't be firmed up until the U.S. release date creeps closer. Stay tuned as more details unfold as we expect more to be made known in January at the 2013 North American International Auto Show. Source: USPTO

Wonder if "Bio-diesel" will be part of this? If it is, new owners should be aware of the maintenance issues caused by using biodiesel.
