Confirmed: 2014 Ram ProMaster Commercial Van Set to Go on Sale in 2013

By Trevor Dorchies | November 28, 2012
Meet the 2014 Ram ProMaster commercial van, a successor to the Dodge Sprinter that went by the wayside after Chrysler filed for bankruptcy back in 2009. Ram, known exclusively as Chrysler's truck arm, will now feature a full-size commercial van that's based on the Fiat Ducato which is currently on sale across the pond. Both the Ducato and now the ProMaster feature a front-wheel drive platform and will have the unmistakable styling seen on other Ram products.
Besides sharing a stable with the Ram truck lineup, the ProMaster commercial van will incorporate features, styling, and engines already found in the Ram truck lineup. The arrival of the Ram ProMaster may also spell trouble for the likes of the Ford Transit and the Nissan NV, two major competitors in the commercial van segment. The segment is expected to get even more crowded once another Fiat van joins in on the fun. Fiat has already made plans known about bringing the Doblo stateside as well but no timetable for its arrival has been announced yet. While the North American market waits on the Doblo, the ProMaster will join the Dodge Grand Caravan-based Ram Cargo Van.
Fiat and Chrysler boss Sergio Marchionne has made it known that there are plans of expanding operations at the automaker's assembly facility in Saltillo, Mexico to handle the Ducato production. No other details about the Ducato have been released yet, we expect it to share similar options like that which are found on the Ram Cargo Van including the various combinations of glass and solid panels. Chrysler expects the 2014 Ram ProMaster to begin arriving in North America sometime in the third quarter of next year. Source: Ram
