Convenient Caffeine: 2013 Fiat 500L to Double as a Rolling Coffee Shop
Too tired to brew your morning coffee before leaving for work? You can now toss your counter space-robbing coffee maker aside. Thanks to Fiat and the all-new 500L, you now have the option of brewing your own cup-o'-Joe while driving to work. Don't get too excited yet, though, as this option will only be initially available in the European-spec 500L. The concept was fleshed out by Lavazza, a prominent Italian coffee maker, who notes that the 500L's in-car brewer works just like a normal house-hold coffee maker. The "Coffee Experience" kit will be positioned between the front seats and will draw power from a dedicated power source. The kit will come with coffee cups which will be stored in the vehicle, along with a container for sugar and a spoon holder. Early indications are that if you check the box for this option, it'll cost you about $300. At the moment, it's unknown whether the 500L's unique option will make it to our shores since it would have to clear multiple hurdles before it can be approved for consumption in the United States. The 2013 Fiat 500L is set to be released in Europe at the end of this year while the U.S. market won't see it until early in 2013. The 500L sits on its sibling's subcompact platform but has been stretched an additional two feet in length and six inches in width. As for power, it uses the same 1.4-liter MultiAir engine that powers the smaller 500 hatchback and cabrio. This engine is rated at 101 horsepower and we expect it to be mated to your choice of a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. As always, stay tuned as more details surface.
