Despite Supply Issues, Deals Still Available on Japanese Vehicles

By Trevor Dorchies | June 15, 2011
While many consumers may believe Japanese vehicles are hard to come by since the tragic earthquake that disrupted the country and its automaking industry on March 11th, there are still plenty of deals to be had out here -- according to the latest analysis by TrueCar.com. "If you're looking to purchase a vehicle, consumers should walk into the dealership having done their research knowing the best price available to them in their area,” said Jesse Toprak, VP of Industry Trends and Insights for TrueCar.com in a statement. Supplies of several cars such as Nissan’s all-electric Leaf, which was already in short supply, have been hit by earthquake-related issues and have contributed to delivery problems . But most models are still readily available, whether they were built in Japan or here or in North America. The Japanese-built Toyota Prius is a case in point. Toyota claims inventory for the Prius is running at roughly normal levels and with only one of the three plants that produce batteries affected by the earthquake, the automaker was able to keep the supply steady. Below is a list from TrueCar of discounts available on several Japanese models. As you can see, there are plenty of deals out there. As always, it’s extremely important to do your research before you shop, especially with the continued uncertainty surrounding the supply of new Japanese vehicles.
