Did Chevrolet Leak Price of 2014 Corvette Stingray Through Contest Rules?
The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is still a few months away from going on sale. As such, we're not yet privy to pricing or final specifications on the seventh-generation sports car. But, because of the disclaimer in a set of contest rules, General Motors might have just accidentally leaked the price of a well-equipped car. In its Race to Win Corvette promotion, Chevrolet will be raffling off a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. In a PDF of its rules and disclaimers, it has a long list of stipulations, including this tidbit: "A 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. Approximate Retail Value ("ARV"): $71,860. Administrator will determine all features of vehicle including but not limited to color of exterior and interior, and all other features or upgrades will be allowed only if permitted by delivery dealer and paid for by winner."In Detroit at the North American International Auto Show when the 2014 Corvette debuted, we were told that if you can afford a current Corvette--which starts at $50,595, including destination charges--you should be able to afford the new car. As we reported, those in the know were telling us that the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray would start at around $55,000, and the well-equipped cars that were on stage would come in around $70,000. If GM's disclaimer is accurate, it would appear our sources were correct. Still, that's just one model that General Motors is giving away, and we don't know what will come standard or how its equipment packages will be priced. Our best guess is that most features this side of a Z06 Corvette will be on the $71,000 version, including the available Z51 upgraded handling package. At this month's Geneva Motor Show, Chevrolet debuted its 2014 Corvette Stingray convertible, and we've heard that GM may have a surprise waiting in store in addition to its five new vehicles set to make their introduction at next week's New York Auto Show. Could part of that surprise be official pricing on the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray? We wouldn't be surprised if it is. Source: Chevrolet/GM
