Disney's Cars Land to Debut in June
If you have kids, or you're a kid at heart, then you're probably familiar with the Disney Pixars animated classic, Cars, starring Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, and the late Paul Newman, among other greats. The movie, which centered on Wilson as a singularly-minded, rookie racecar who spends time in a small, Route-66-like town off the beaten path (in this case, Interstate 40), was an instant success, at the theaters, and in the toy stores. And for a couple years, we've heard grumblings and seen snapshots that Disney's California Adventure theme park in southern California was building a land devoted to the movie. Now, we have confirmation that it's almost done. The video below looks a lot like the drive that Lightning McQueen (Wilson) and Sally Carrera (Bonnie Hunt) drove in the canyons outside Radiator Springs, toward the bluff that overlooks the fictional version of the I-40--the sentimental, historical look-back on the town in its heyday, and ultimate collapse--but features a single-groove track similar to Disneyland's Autopia. But faster and funner. Little else is known about Cars Land, or this specific ride, except that testing will continue through the spring, seven days a week, and that each car will have logged over 36,000 miles prior to the opening on June 15. As it's practically in our backyard, here in Los Angeles and Orange counties, we're looking forward to the opening.
