Epic Drives Episode 2: Lotus Evora Tackles The Rockies

By Keith Buglewicz | March 02, 2012
You've watched a topless Audi A8 wind its way through the fjords of Norway. Now it's another exotic, with yet another snowy, mountainous backdrop. But this time, there's a more compelling story, simply because, with the exception of the car, anybody living in the United States could theoretically replicate this journey. The car, incidentally, is a quintessentially British 2011 Lots Evora. The first four-seat Lotus in 20 years, the Evora's light weight, precise handling and striking looks are a perfect match for this kind of drive. Or is it? There's only one way to find out, so Motor Trend executive editor Ron Kiino drove the Evora from Seattle, east across Montana, and then down the Continental Divide into New Mexico before heading back to Los Angeles. The Lotus encountered every kind of weather you can imagine, breathtaking scenery, treacherous roads, and a blanketing of snow straight out of a storybook. It's the very definition of Epic Drive. How did the delicate British flower fare? You'll have to watch to find out, but don't worry. It's 11 minutes very well spent.
