Esurance Helps Prevent Distracted Driving
In an effort to help prevent distracted driving among teens, Esurance is offering a unique technology solution that can block the use of cell phones. This technology will help keep teens focused on the road, and not on calls, texts, emails, or other applications, greatly helping to save lives. According to the NHTSA, 3,331 people were killed in accidents caused by distracted driving in 2011, with an additional 387,000 injured in like accidents. Traffic accidents remain the leading cause of death for teens. Esurance, the car insurance company, says it is the only insurance company in the U.S. to offer this solution to distracted driving among teen policyholders. Robert Passmore, Senior Director of Personal Lines Policy for the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI) said in a statement that "Distracted driving of all kinds is a critical problem. This is a great example of how our members have led the way on auto safety issues. PCI has long supported efforts to promote awareness of the issue and technology is one tool that people can use to protect themselves, their passengers and fellow motorists from the hazards of distracted driving." Working with Cellcontrol, The new application offers customized settings that help define what parents want to block, such as texts, emails, calls, and other apps, but will enable calls via a hands-free device or headset. Also, certain apps like navigation and music can be enabled while others are blocked. All outgoing calls will be blocked, except for emergency calls. Parents will also receive email notifications if their teen tries to disable or remove the device or delete the application. Source: Esurance
